Isaac Berger

Isaac Berger ( born November 16, 1936 in Jerusalem) was an American weightlifter.

Career

Isaac Berger grew up in Palestine and emigrated with his parents, his father was a rabbi, after the Israeli War of Independence in 1949 in the United States. The family settled in New York. After a few attempts in other sports, discovered only about 50 kg youth bodybuilding and weightlifting. He joined the Adonis Health Club in Brooklyn and later the famous York Barbell Club. In 1955 he won the first American championship at featherweight. By Bob Hofmann, the multi-million dollar American mentor of weightlifting at the time, support, he made in a short time such rapid progress that he could soon be used internationally and equal won the gold medal in his first international start in the Summer Olympic Games in 1956. A year later, he took part in the 5th Maccabiah.

In 1964 he ended his active career after many successes. He was a cantor in the College of Music in New York. In 1965, Isaac Berger was inducted into the United States Weightlifters Hall of Fame. 1980, its induction into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
