Yevgeny Minayev

Yevgeny Gawrilowitsch Minayev (Russian, scientific transliteration Evgenij Gavrilovic Minaev; born May 31, 1933, Klin, † to the December 8, 1993 ) was a Soviet weightlifter.

Career

Yevgeny Minayev was active as a teenager as a gymnast and athlete, without attracting attention particularly herein. Only when he was drafted into the army, he tried with weightlifting since he was small, lightweight but very strong. In the army, the weight lifting was particularly encouraged. His first coach, who took significant part in its development, SD was Bogdasarov. His first appearance at a major national championship took place in 1956 at the Völkerspartakiade the Soviet Union. Although he finished with 335 kg only 4th place in the featherweight ( up to 60 kg body weight), but was only 5 kg behind winner Ivan Udodow. His nomination for the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne was still surprising. But He fulfilled the trust placed in him and won with 342.5 kg silver medal. In the following years he represented the Soviet Union in many international championships and delivered primarily by Americans Isaac Berger many hot duels. His greatest achievement was winning the gold medal at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome.
