Miguel Ãngel Gómez MartÃnez
Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez ( born in 1949 in Granada ) is a Spanish conductor and composer.
At the age of seven he stood for the first time on the podium. At the conservatories his hometown and in Madrid, he then completed his musical education he completed master classes in the U.S. and studying in Vienna with Hans Swarovsky.
An international career led the conductor now at all major opera houses in the world. He conducted at the Vienna State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, in Paris, Covent Garden London, in Milan, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Buenos Aires. As a guest conductor he has led, inter alia, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.
He was chief conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Spanish Radio in Madrid (1984-1987), the Madrid Opera (1985-1991) and the Basque National Orchestra San Sebastian (1989-1993), Music Director at the Mannheim National Theatre (1990-1993), at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki (1993-1996) and at the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra ( 1992-2000). After that, he was at the Opera Bern and conductor of the Orchestra of Valencia. In the season 2004/ 05 he again took over conducting engagements at the National Theatre Mannheim. Since 2004 he is also every year at Easter at the rostrum of the International Youth Orchestra Academy ( IJOA ). With the international Auswahlorchester he has 2004 Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 " Resurrection Symphony ", 2005 4 and 2006 rehearsed the 7th Symphony by Anton Bruckner and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in 2007. In 2008 he brought the Symphony No. 2 by Johannes Brahms with the IJOA in the context of the Bayreuth Easter Festival and the Easter Festival Northern Upper Palatinate to the performance. The proceeds of the benefit concert went to benefit children with cancer.
For his artistic commitment, he was honored in 1995 by the Spanish King Juan Carlos with the Commander's orders.
