Mihai Brediceanu

Mihai Brediceanu ( born June 14, 1920 in Braşov; † 4 March 2005) was a Romanian composer, conductor and musicologist.

Brediceanu was the son of the composer Tiberiu Brediceanu (1877-1968) and nephew of diplomats Brediceanu Caius ( 1879-1953 ). He studied at the Conservatory of Braşov and piano at the Music Academy Bucharest music theory, conducting and composition with Mihail Jora, Martian Negrea, Florica Musicescu, Silvia Serbescu and Ionel Perlea. He also completed a law in Bucharest and study mathematics and graduated with a doctorate. From 1959 to 1966 he was Director General of the Opera Naţională Bucureşti, 1969-1971 Music Director of the Syracuse Orchestra in New York City, after which he worked until 1975 as a professor at Syracuse University. Between 1978 and 1980, was Brediceanu General of the Opera of Istanbul, 1982-1990 Director General of the Symphony Orchestra George Enescu. Since 1991 he was again General of the Opera Naţională Română Bucureşti. In 1995, he was director of the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest.

Brediceanu was also a member of the Composers Union of Romania. In addition to several incidental music he composed a symphony, four symphonic dances, a suite for chamber orchestra, choral works, chamber music and songs.
