Mike Byers

Mike Arthur Byers ( born September 11, 1946 in Toronto, Ontario; † 16 September 2010 in Novato, California ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who in 1967 to 1972 for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings and Buffalo Sabres the National Hockey League has played.

Career

Mike Byers began his career as a hockey player with the Toronto Marlboros, for whom he played from 1963 to 1967 in the Ontario Hockey Association. In his last season with the Marlboros he won with his team the Memorial Cup. Then the attacker was engaged by the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League, for which he was employed in the following season ten times. He also played this year for Toronto's former farm team, the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League and the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. After Byers started the 1968/69 season in Toronto, he was mainly used in the Tulsa Oilers in the CHL, and finally issued on March 2, 1969 with Bill Sutherland and Gerry Meehan in exchange for Brit Selby and Forbes Kennedy to the Philadelphia Flyers. By the end of the season the Canadians still played a total of nine times in the regular season and the playoffs for the Flyers, however, the following season he spent exclusively with their damaligem farm team, the Quebec Aces of the AHL.

In the summer of 1970, Byers was transferred to the Los Angeles Kings, for which he was the following year and a half active. The 1971/72 season ended Byers at the Buffalo Sabres, where he finished his NHL career. Following that season, he signed a contract with the Los Angeles Sharks of the World Hockey Association, who submitted him in February 1973 at their league rival New England Whalers, with whom he the prestigious Avco World Trophy won at the end of the 1972/73 season. The Whalers turn broke up after three years in February 1976 to the Treaty of the attacker, who thus to the Cincinnati Stingers ( WHA also ) could change. His career as a player finally finished Byers in the 1976/77 season with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League, for which he already played in his time with the Maple Leafs.

On 16 September 2010 Mike Byers died of cancer.
