Mike Windischmann

Michael Windisch Man (December 6, 1965 in Nuremberg, Germany) is a former American football player who played mainly in the position of a defender. During his active time he played in the Major Indoor Soccer League and American Soccer League. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

Youth

Windischmann was born in Germany but emigrated with his parents at the age of three years from the United States. He attended Thomas A. Edison High School in New York City. At the age of six he started playing football. He did not play in the school, as is common in the U.S. but in small clubs New Yorkers, such as Blue-White Gottschee, SC Gjoa and Queens United. After graduating from high school he went to the Adelphi University located in Garden City. There he continued to play football. In 1986, he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame of the College.

Professional

After graduating from Adelphi University, he made the decision to continue to want to play football. At that time, the Major Indoor Soccer League, the most popular league for young football players. Windischmann decided to play for the Brooklyn Italians in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League. After two years, moved to the MISL to the Los Angeles Lazers. After just one season, he moved on and he played from 1989 for the Albany Capitals of the American Soccer League.

The end of 1990 Windischmann announced his retirement as an active soccer player.

National

1985 Windisch man was part of the U-16 national team of the United States, who participated in the U-16 World Cup in the People's Republic of China. In the same year he took part for the USA at the Universiade. In 1987, he was also a member of the U.S. team at the Universiade and also took part in the football tournament of the Pan American Games.

In 1984 he made ​​his debut for the national team of the United States. With the national team, he also took part in the Summer Olympic Games in 1988. There he experienced a personal highlight as he scored the equalizer in the game against Argentina. In 1990, the United States played at the Football World Cup in Italy. Windisch man was the captain of the team. It was the first time in 40 years that the United States was again at a World Cup.
