Mikko Hietanen

Mikko Hietanen ( born September 22, 1911 in Uusikirkko; † 3 February 1999 Laukaa ) was a Finnish marathon runner. The 1.68 m wide and its competition time 55 kg heavy runners in 1946 was the third European Champion in the marathon. At lower distances he ran five world records.

At the European Championships 1946 in Oslo Hietanen won in 2:24:55 hours on a but only 40.2 kilometer route. So Hietanen was at the third European Championships, the third Finnish Marathon winner after Armas Toivonen and Väinö Muinonen. Muinonen was at the age of 47 years in Oslo second behind Hietanen. Almost simultaneously, won on the same path, but in the opposite direction continuously, Viljo Heino and Helge Perälä the 10,000 -meter run. Finland won so on August 22, 1946 within a few minutes twice each gold and silver on the long running routes.

Hietanen ran his first marathon in 1943. 1945 to 1948 he was Finnish champion. In 1946, he won the traditional marathon in Kosice. In 1947 he finished second in the Boston Marathon, where he ran his fastest regular time with 2:29:39. At the 1948 Olympic Games in London, he was injured on. Four years later at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, he was in front of his home crowd 17 in 2:34:01 hours. With 50 years he ran 2:44:58 hours and his last marathon he completed over 70 years.
