Millennium Democratic Party (East Timor)

The Partido Democrático PMD Milenio ( Millennium Democratic Party, English: Millennium Democratic Party, Tetum: Partidu Milenium Demokratiku ) is a party in East Timor, which was founded in early July 2004 by former members of the Partido Social Democrata PSD. Party Chairman is Hermenegildo Lopes, also known as Kupa ( alternate spelling: Ermenegildo Cupa ).

One goal of the PMD is a better equality of women in Timorese society. This should be better enforced in the school system. At least 35% of the candidates of the PMD for elections should be women, the legal quota for women is only 25%.

For the presidential election campaign of 2007, the PMD nominated in February the former Bishop of Dili, Carlos Felipe Ximenes Belo, but supported, as this did not compete the previous Prime Minister José Ramos- Horta. Ramos -Horta won the election.

In 2007 also held election for the Parliament, the PMD to the former President Xanana Gusmão announced support as prime minister candidate. In the elections on 30 June, the PMD received only 2878 votes, representing 0.69% of the valid votes and failed it clearly at the new three- percent threshold. The greatest support she found in the district of loud, where she received 569 votes ( 2.10% ).

In July 2007, the PMD joined with five other parties, who had also failed in the parliamentary elections at the three- percent threshold together to League Democrática Progressiva LDP. The LDP is intended for very different ideological and program participants as a political platform outside parliament. Speaker of the LDP was Hermenegildo Lopes of the PMD.

In the parliamentary elections in 2012 came with the PMD of the Partido Nacional Timor Leste Republika ( PARENTIL ) in a joint electoral list, the (, tetum bloku Proklamador block of Herald) called Bloco Proclamador. The Bloco Proclamador but failed with only 3,125 votes (0.66 %) at the three- percent threshold. He scored the best results in the district Aileu with 2.43 % of votes.
