Milorad Čavić

Milorad Čavić ( born May 31, 1984 in Anaheim, California) is a Serbian swimmer.

Career

Milorad Čavić went for the first time at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney for his country at the start, where he took over 50 m freestyle. In the European Short Course Championship 2003 in Dublin, he set a new world record in the butterfly with 50.02 s. This was set on 24 March 2004 by Ian Crocker. Furthermore Čavić five times European Champion.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he won the silver medal in the 100m butterfly, where he was beaten by only a hundredth of a second from Michael Phelps.

Scandal

A year later, on 6 August 2009 Omega admitted that Čavić to a hundredth of a second ahead of Michael Phelps at the target was at the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 in the 100 meter butterfly, Phelps was allowed to keep the gold medal anyway.

At the award ceremony for his success over 50 meters butterfly at the European Swimming Championships 2008 Čavić wore a T - shirt with the inscription " Косово је Србија " ( "Kosovo is Serbia "). This earned him a disqualification for the remaining contests, because of the Disciplinary Committee of the European Swimming League ( LEN) the evaluated as a violation of the Statute. Čavić had as a consequence a penalty of $ 10,800 to pay, but was allowed to keep his medal and the European record.
