Milton Glaser

Milton Glaser, Seymour Chwast, together with, Reynold Ruffins and Edward Sorel, a founding member of the Push Pin Studios, a design agency in New York ( 1954-1974 ). The so-called "push -pin style " broke into his playful handwriting with that in the U.S. at that time prevailing design, which was strongly influenced by Europe and the relatively strict and sober Swiss Graphic Design from the 50s and 60s. He was from 1955 to 1974 editor and art director of Push Pin Graphic ( along with Chwast and Ruffin ). However, Glaser retired in 1970 from Push Pin in 1974 and founded his own studio, Milton Glaser Inc.

Work

Glaser is one of the most important graphic designers, illustrators and poster artists of modern times. His work ranges from architecture to furniture design. One focus of the Milton Glaser Studios is the product design, and the design of innovative art, concert and event posters; so the poster for Bob Dylan is considered one of his most famous works and is now a sought-after collector's item. Glaser designed the visual appearance of WINDOWS ON THE WORLD, that famous restaurant in the World Trade Center. Glaser's works suggest an individual and colorful character style that is often paired with visual illusions (Camouflage ), decorative patterns and subtle subtly inserted, rather classical typography. Glaser also designed numerous corporate logos and signs; the best known is probably the set in a semi-fat American Typewriter " I love NY " ( I Love New York) be, where the word is love with a red heart symbolizes. The Rebuslogo "I LOVE NY " has been modified numerous times and satirizes; last of Milton Glaser himself, who its logo after the terrorist attacks of September 11 in the "I LOVE NY MORE THAN EVER " ( I love New York more than ever ) changed - with a little black spot on the red heart.

Milton Glaser's work has been widely awarded ao The Art Directors Club, the American Institute of Graphic Arts and the Type Directors Club and found its way into countless posters galleries and collections of numerous museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Glaser was appointed honorary member of the Royal Society of Arts; he teaches at the School of Visual Arts and Cooper Union in New York.
