Minnesota Lake is a town on the border between Blue Earth County and Faribault County in the U.S. state of Minnesota. In 2000, the city had 681 inhabitants. Minnesota Lake was originally called, in 1858, Marples, after one of his early white settlers. The name was changed in 1866 in Minnesota Lake.
Geography
The largest part of the urban area is located in Faribault County, only a small part extends into the Blue Earth County. The town itself is located on the eastern shore of the lake.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.4 km ², of which 4.1 km ² of land and 1.3 km ² omitted ( = 23.67 %) to water.
Minnesota State Route 22 leads as the main road through the town. Parallel to this was the railroad of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, this is no longer in this area.
Demography
At the time of the census of 2000, there were 681 persons Minnesota Lake. The population density was 166.4 people per km ². There were 316 housing units at an average 77.2 per km ². The Minnesota Lakes population consisted of 99.56 % White, 0.15 % African American and 0.29 % from two or more races. 0.59 % of the population to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Residents of Minnesota Lakes were distributed to 297 households out of which 29.3% were living in children under 18 years. 58.6 % married couples living together, 3.7 % had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7 % were non-families. 31.0 % of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 20.2 % of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size is 2.86 people.
The population was spread out with 24.2 % under the, 7.6 % 18 -24- year-old, 26.9 % 25 -44- year-old, 21.6% 45-64 year olds and 19.7 % under the age of 65 years or more. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 105.1 males. In the over -18s accounted for 100 women 100.8 males.
The median household income in Minnesota Lake was 34 896 U.S. dollars, and the median family income reached the level of 44 091 U.S. dollars. The average income of men was 32,105 U.S. dollars, compared to 19,844 U.S. dollars for women. The per capita income amounted to 18,609 U.S. dollars. 4.3% of the population and 2.0 % of families had affected an income below the poverty line, including 3.3 % of minors and 7.1 % of those age 65 or over.
