Mira Calix

Mira Calix is the pseudonym of the South African musician Chantal Passamonte (born 1969 in Durban, South Africa). Your music can be attributed to the genre Electronica and published by the British label Warp Records.

Life

Born in Durban, South Africa Passamonte trained as a photographer and moved in 1991 to the United Kingdom. There, she worked in the London record store Ambient Soho and later. The third solo album, Eyes Set Against The Sun appeared in 2006. During the same year appeared with the EP Push Door To Exit the first release of the project Alexander's Annexe, worked for Mira Calix with the musicians Sarah Nicolls and David Sheppard. Her fourth solo album The Elephant In The Room: 3 Commissions published in 2008 The following year, accompanied by sound Mira Calix is one of eight of the 154 Shakespeare's Sonnets in the project Nothing Like the Sun by the composer Gavin Bryars. .

In autumn 2009, she won for the song My Secret Heart the British Composer Award and the Royal Philharmonic Society Award. The piece is part of an installation of the homeless project Streetwise Opera and was created in collaboration with video artist Flat -E. My Secret Heart was performed on tour in 2009 and 2010 at various international events such as the Edinburgh International Film Festival or Super Deluxe Tokyo. Overall, the project reached 150,000 viewers.

The collaboration with the Seefeel musician Mark Clifford the project originated cliffordandcalix. Published in 2010 on the album Aperture Lost Foundling 1999-2004 and the Lost Foundling Remix EP.

Passamonte is married to Autechre - musician Sean Booth and lives in Saxmundham, Suffolk.
