Miracle Landing

Flight 243 disaster is an American disaster film from the year 1990. The TV movie was directed by Dick Lowry.

Action

The film shows true events that have taken place in 1988. A Boeing 737-200 of Paradise Airlines, is controlled by the flight captain, Bob Schorn Theimer and from the first pilot line, Mimi Tompkins. The flight runs normally first.

The aircraft lost during the flight parts of the hull. The passengers are in an open, unprotected cab. The captain is making a successful emergency landing.

Background

The film is based on a true event, namely the accident of Aloha Airlines Flight 243 on April 28, 1988 in Hawaii. A 6-7 meter long piece of the fuselage of the Boeing 737-200 collapsed after starting at an altitude of 24,000 ft ( about 7,300 meters) and tore off from the aircraft. A flight attendant was sucked by the sudden decompression of the airplane, and died; 65 people were injured. The pilots managed nevertheless to land safely on the Kahului Airport. The cause of the disaster fatigue was determined.

The disaster movie was filmed in Honolulu. The film does not mention the real name of the airline, which was part of the accident aircraft. Instead, the name " Paradise Airlines" will be used. The names of the crew of the aircraft are authentic, however.
