Mirage (Camel album)

Occupation

Mirage is the second studio album by British progressive rock band Camel. It was released in 1974 on Decca Records.

Creation and publication

After the self-titled debut album Camel signed a recording contract with Decca Records, and went on tour for nine months. Then they recorded their second album. Under pressure from the cigarette brand Camel had the record covers, showing a dromedary in the desert, be changed in the U.S., as it was very similar to the design of cigarette packs. For Europe, however, the band manager Geoff Jukes arrived Convention. For advertising purposes, there were small cigarette packs with the artwork and the track list of the album at concerts were distributed ( against the wishes of the band) free samples. Since the tobacco company wanted to take another influence that cooperation was terminated soon.

A remastered CD version of the Mirage was the first time in 1989 on the market, in 2002 published a remastered version with bonus tracks that consisted of alternate and live versions.

Style

On Camels second album, her characteristic style begins to emerge. They play progressive rock with complex rhythms and varied guitar and keyboard parts. Andrew Latimer plays on Mirage also flute. Reception

Mirage applies not only to the followers of The Snow Goose and Moon Madness as the band's classics. Although Markus Peltner of the Baby Blue Pages sums up: " It's all not bad, what Camel have since delivered to the early and mid 70s. But somehow swam the band so. Not bad, as I said, but really good? No, the music for it just is not thrilling enough, and it then remains but depend significantly less than in other British Combos same style and the same time. " However, Jochen beef Frey called Mirage than Camels " masterpiece ", the" missing in any prog collection " should.
