Mircea Sandu

Traian Mircea " Nasu " Sandu ( born October 22, 1952 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player and functionary. During his active career, he completed a total of 407 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A. From 1990 to 2014 he was president of the Romanian Football Federation Federatia Română de Fotbal.

Playing career

Mircea Sandu began playing football at the age of nine years in his home town of Bucharest in Sportul Studenţesc. In 1968 he moved to local rivals Progresul where he aufrückte into the first team in 1970. There he celebrated his debut in Divizia A on August 30, 1970 against CFR Cluj. After the descent at the end of season Sandu returned to Sportul, who played in Divizia B.

In Sportul Sandu immediately became a regular player and contributed 15 goals to that already achieved in 1971, the rise in the Divizia A and thus the return after 30 years. He remained Sportul total of 15 years faithfully and regularly achieved its goals. His most successful season was the 1975/76 season with 21 goals. Sportul belonged at that time - apart from the years after the climb - to the upper middle of the Romanian league. A title succeeded Sandu with Sportul not. The best results were two third places in the seasons 1982/83 and 1984/85 and the runner-up 1985/86.

After this success, Sandu left Sportul and switched to Gloria Buzău, where he finished his career due to injury in 1987 after five matches played.

National

Sandu played a total of 18 games for the Romanian national football team, scoring six goals. He made his debut on April 8, 1972 against France. During this period, Romania qualified neither for the world nor European.

Career as a functionary

After the end of his active career Sandu was responsible for the children and youth of the Romanian Football Federation from 1987 to 1989 and participated in Sportul Studenţesc true administrative tasks. In February 1990, he was elected Secretary General of the Romanian Football Federation and joined the successor of Mircea Pascu as President of the Association in August 1990. Since 26 January 2007, he also serves on the Executive Committee of UEFA. On 25 March 2008 Sandu was from Romanian President Traian Basescu for the qualification of the national team for the European Football Championship in 2008 with the Order of Merit " Meritul sporty " III. Mircea Sandu was in his first marriage with the Women's Handball Simona Arghir (1948-1995) married. From this marriage a son and a daughter, the former tennis player Raluca Sandu came from (* 1980). Meanwhile Sandu is married to his second wife Lisa. In autumn 2009, it was announced that Sandu has cancer.
