Mirza Begić

Mirza Begić ( born July 9, 1985 in Bijeljina, SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian basketball player of Bosnian origin. He plays mostly on the position of the center.

Career

The 2.21 meter tall Mirza Begić began his career in Bosnia, in Sloboda Dita Tuzla. In 2002, the then 17 -year-old moved to Slovenia, first in the second team KK Union Olimpija and in the following season to KK Triglav Kranj. In the summer of 2004, the Italian club Virtus Bologna tradition committed to the talented center, but gave him for one season to the Belgian first division club Huy Basket. After his return to the Italians he barely got playing time and his contract was terminated before the end of the 2005/06 season. Begić returned to Slovenia, where he eventually moved to Union Olimpija for the 2007/08 season after a strong season in Geoplin Slovan. With the Brussels residents he could conquer each of the league and cup double in two seasons. In summer 2009, he undertook the Lithuanian club Zalgiris Kaunas tradition. The following season he won with his club, the Baltic Basketball League with a 73:66 in the final against Lietuvos Rytas. In January 2011 Begić moved to Spanish giants Real Madrid, where he signed a contract until 2013. In the season 2011/12 he could win with his team the trophy. At the beginning of the season 2012/13 was followed by winning the Spanish Super Cups, he also reached the final of the Euro Real Madrid League and ended the year with a victory in the championship. Mirza Begić changed in the summer of 2013 to the reigning Euro League champion Olympiakos Piraeus. He signed a two-year contract with the Greeks.

National

Mirza Begić played with the Slovenian U-20 national team's European Championship in 2005 and finished with her 10th place. In the Eurobasket 2011 in Lithuania he was in the squad of the national team of Slovenia and finished the tournament in seventh place. With 1.9 shot blocks per game, he led the tournament statistics.
