Mitter am Erlaufsee is a municipality with 531 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Lilienfeld in Lower Austria.

Geography
Mitter am Erlaufsee located in the southern Mostviertel in Lower Austria. The Mitterland Bach himself is directly adjacent to the Styria; only about seven kilometers to the south is Mariazell. In the municipality there are the Ötschergräben, Erlaufsee, the Erlaufstausee and Gemeindealpe ( with ski ).
The area of the municipality covers 67.28 square kilometers. 78.86 percent of the area is forested.

The municipality comprises the two villages (in brackets population as of 31 October 2011):
- Josefsrotte (157 )
- Mitter Bach Seerotte (391)
The municipality comprises the cadastral Josefsrotte and Mitterbachseerotte.
History
In ancient times, the area was part of the province of Noricum. In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria lying the place told the eventful history of Austria. Due to the immigration of Protestant woodcutters in the 18th century in Mitterbach a strong Protestant community with a Toleranzbethaus well preserved.
Population Development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 615 inhabitants. In 1991 the community had 667 inhabitants in 1981 and 689 in 1971, 768 inhabitants.
Policy
The council has 15 seats, mayor of the municipality is Alfred Hinterecker, office manager Roland Sagmüller.
In the municipal elections of 2005, the ÖVP and the SPÖ reached 10 5 mandates. In the municipal elections of 2010, the Social Democrats lost one seat to the ÖVP.
