Mius River

The Mius (Ukrainian Міус, Russian Миус ) is a river in Ukraine and in Russia.

Course

The source of the Mius is on the Donezrücken, one running through the Donets Basin ridge, in the Luhansk Oblast, near the border to the Donetsk Oblast, about twelve miles southeast of downtown Debalzewe. It then flows first in a south-easterly direction, it marks the boundary between the two oblasts, then again a few kilometers through the Luhansk Oblast, where he south of the town of Krasny Luch turns south. After again flowing through the extreme East of the Donetsk Oblast of the river reached the Russian Rostov Oblast, in which the largest part of the river.

He finally ends a few kilometers north-west of Taganrog in the 30 kilometer Mius Liman Sea of ​​Azov.

History

During World War II ran along the Mius a line of defense of the German army, where the troops of the Red Army could be stopped during the Donets - Mius offensive in the summer of 1943, again during their counter-offensive at the Battle of Rostov and the end of 1941.
