Mo Ostin

Mo Ostin ( born March 27, 1927 in New York City ) is a rock music producer who was best known as the head of Warner Brothers Records.

Ostin grew up in Los Angeles, where lived in the neighborhood of Irving Grantz. Grantz ' brother Norman was the founder of Verve Records, which Ostin in 1954 got a job at the label. When Frank Sinatra 1960 Capitol Records left to his own label, Reprise found to Ostin got from him a position as Vice - President offered, which he accepted. Reprise had especially musicians like Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. under contract, but was incorporated as the label in 1963 Warner Bros., Ostin began to also produce various rock artists. In the early 1970s he was appointed by Warner Bros. Leader Steve Ross as chairman of the Warner Bros. label.

Under the direction of Warner Bros. Ostin could, among other things Jimi Hendrix, the Kinks, Frank Zappa, James Taylor, Paul Simon, the Grateful Dead, Joni Mitchell, The Beach Boys, Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Van Morrison, Randy Newman, Ry Cooder, Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band and the Fugs commit, and later REM and the Red Hot Chili Peppers do so. 1995 Ostin then left Warner Bros., because Ross had appointed before his death this year, the ex- politician Robert Morgardo Head of the Company, and Warner Bros. In the late 1990s took Ostin along with Lenny Waronker a job at DreamWorks, where the two produced, among others, Randy Newman, Elliott Smith and Rufus Wainwright. 2003 Ostin was included in the category "Non - Performers " in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
