Content

In Mockingbird Eminem dedicates his daughter Hailie and his adopted niece Alaina (called " Lainie "). In the first stanza he admits an error in the education of his daughter, and in the relationship with Kim. In addition, Eminem says he wants to give them the life he never had, and I will protect you from all negative influences. He knows that Hailie is sad because he is so often away from home and her parents have separated, but against fate he could not do anything. The chorus is based on the lullaby Hush, Little Baby and aimed at Hailie, which should not cry, because her father will always be there for them. In the second stanza Eminem raps about his former life. He said that he had no money at Christmas to buy gifts. Therefore, his then wife, Kim, bought the gifts and said that they were two of them. He then spent the whole night crying long because he felt like a failure. After burglars stole money that Kim wanted to save for Hailie's education, the relationship would eventually broken apart completely. Shortly afterwards, Eminem had gone to California to Dr. Dre, who discovered him. At the end of the song, the rapper promises once again to do everything for his daughters.
