Love the Way You Lie ( Part II) is a song originating from Barbadian R & B recording artist Rihanna from her fifth studio album Loud. The song was recorded with the U.S. rapper Eminem. It is the sequel to the worldwide hit Love the Way You Lie from the year 2010, which is on Eminem's seventh studio album Recovery.

Background

Eminem and Rihanna took in 2010, an alternative version of Love the Way You Lie, this time with Rihanna as the lead singer. In the song, the story of its predecessor from the female perspective is told. Rihanna said in an interview with MTV.com that she had initially been opposed to a sequel, because they thought that they could never outdo the original. But when she heard the shot by Skylar Grey demo version, she was ready to receive the sequel. In the same interview, she also said that the second part have cost less effort than the first part, as the two singers were accompanied only by piano and drums.

A piano version, which excludes Eminem's part of the song is available on iTunes as a bonus track from Loud.

The original demo version of Grey was released on their EP The Buried Sessions of Skylar Grey and the iTunes Store version of her album Do not Look Down.

Critical reception

Jon Pareles of The New York Times said that the song was purely theatrical, but also for a moment simply is " raw". Said Chris Richards of the Washington Post that Rihanna could prevail against well- Eminem Love the Way You Lie ( Part II) and that they really show what put in it. Commented on Emily Mackay of NME, that the contrast between Rihanna who sang rather balladig, and Eminem, who cry formally with rage, was just great.

James Skinner of BBC Online judged Love the Way You Lie ( Part II) better than the original. He said that mainly Rihanna making up a large part of the song. She is the main protagonist in contrast to the first part. Commented Steve Jones of USA Today that the song would not come close to the original version. Thomas Conner of the Chicago Sun- Times gave the song for an unnecessary sequel.

Live performances

Rihanna sang the song, among others, during the 2010 American Music Awards together with their U.S. number - one hits Only Girl ( In the World) and What's My Name? . Rihanna and Eminem sang the song also still at the Grammy Awards 2011 as part of a medley with I Need A Doctor by Eminem, Dr. Dre, Adam Levine and Skylar Grey.

Commercial success

Love the Way You Lie ( Part II) is not available separately, but only with the album in most countries. The song debuted at # 19 in the Canadian Hot 100 during the week of December 4, 2010, and was represented for eight weeks in the charts. In the UK, the song debuted on 27 November 2010 to 61st place
