Moieciu

Moieciu ( Moesch German, Hungarian Moécs ) is a six villages municipality in the district of Brasov in Transylvania, Romania. Seat of the municipality is the place Moieciu de Jos.

Location

Moieciu is the southeast corner of Transylvania. West of the village is situated the Piatra Craiului, east of the Bucegi Mountains.

History

Moieciu de Jos was first documented in 1405. It was a village of Romanian peasants and pastoralists.

After Moieciu had heard until the end of the First World War the Kingdom of Hungary, the Principality of Transylvania and Austria- Hungary, it has since become a part of the State of Romania.

Today, part of the residents commute to work in Brasov or other cities in the surrounding area. An increasing role of tourism.

Population

Since the first census in Transylvania the church is reported as predominantly inhabited by Romanians. In 1850 were 3403 inhabitants, of which 3282 Romanians registered. Since the peak in the year 1977 (5763 inhabitants) decreased the population. 2002 referred to by the then 4784 inhabitants of the municipality 4780 as Romanians, two each as Hungary and German.

In the conveniently located village Moieciu de Jos itself, the population remained largely stable in recent decades. 2002 2082 inhabitants ( 2080 Romanians and Hungarians 2 ) were registered.

Traffic

Moieciu de Jos is located on the mountain pass between Brasov and Pitesti, which corresponds to the European road 574. There are very good bus connections to Brasov. The nearest train station is located about ten kilometers in the city Zărneşti on the railway line Brasov Zărneşti.

Attractions

The Church of Moieciu de Jos Sfântul Nicolae emerged in the second half of the 18th century.

Moieciu is the starting point for walks in the Piatra Craiului and Bucegi Mountains. The municipality has a share in the national parks of both mountains.

A few kilometers north is the famous Bran Castle.
