Mojinete Canton

The Canton Mojinete is a municipality in the department of Potosí in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

The Cantón Mojinete is one of five cantons in the county ( bolivian: Municipio) Mojinete in the province Sur Lípez. It is bordered to the northeast and north by the province of Nor chichas, on the west by the Canton of La Cienega, on the southwest by the municipality of San Antonio de Esmoruco, to the south by the Canton of Casa Grande and on the east by the Republic of Argentina.

The canton extends between about 21 ° 45 'and 21 ° 51' south latitude and 66 ° 13 ' and 66 ° 22' west longitude, it measures from north to south up to 10 kilometers, from west to east up to 15 kilometers. In the canton there are five municipalities, the central location is Mojinete in the northeastern part of the canton with 271 inhabitants. The canton is located at an average altitude of 4000 m.

Geography

The canton is located in the Cordillera de Lípez on the southern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano, the region's climate is semiarid and has a typical diurnal climate, in which the mean temperature variation during the day is more distinct than in the course of the seasons.

The average annual temperature of the region is just under 8 ° C (see climate chart Mojinete ), the monthly values ​​vary only slightly between about 3 ° C in June / July and 11 ° C from December to February. The annual rainfall is 230 mm at low, the monthly rainfall less than 10 mm in the winter half year from April to October, reached only from December to February values ​​of 50 to 60 mm.

The literacy rate for those over 19 years is 79 percent, and that 98 percent of men and 62 percent in women. The most important idiom with a share of 97 percent is Quechua, 81 percent of the population speaks Spanish. 86 percent of the population is Catholic, 13 percent Protestant. (2001)
