Monte Quemado

Monte Quemado is the capital of the department Copo in the province of Santiago del Estero in the north-western Argentina. It lies on the Chaco Austral. The distance to the provincial capital Santiago del Estero is 330 kilometers above the Ruta Provincial 5 and the Ruta Nacional 16 In the classification of municipalities in the province is classified them as a congregation of the second category.

History

The founding date of the city is 5 October 1931.

Population

Monte Quemado has 11,387 inhabitants (2001, INDEC ), which was 42 percent of the population of the department of Copo.
