Montureux-et-Prantigny

Montureux -et- Prantigny is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Montureux -et- Prantigny situated at an altitude of 228 m above sea level, 7 km north-east of Gray and about 42 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the west of the department, in an elevated position on the plateau on the western edge of the Talniederung the Saône.

The area of ​​12.18 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Saône Valley. The eastern boundary runs along the Saone River, which flows through about three kilometers wide Alluvialniederung south. The flood plain is on average 195 m. The river is channeled and expanded to waterway. From the river, the municipality's area extends westward across the Talniederung and a 20 m high, steep former cut bank of the Saône to the adjacent plateau. This consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic period and is located at 240 m. On the plateau dominates agricultural use, but there are also some forest areas. With 246 meters, the highest elevation of Montureux -et- Prantigny is achieved in the far west.

The double municipality comprises the main town Montureux that extends along the western edge of the valley of the Saône, and the hamlet of Prantigny (197 m ) at a river crossing on the west bank of the Saône. Neighboring communities of Montureux -et- Prantigny are Vereux in the north, Beaujeu -Saint -Vallier- Pierrejux -et -Quitteur in the east, the south and Rigny Chargey -lès- Gray and Oyrières in the West.

History

The territory of Montureux -et- Prantigny was inhabited in Gallo- Roman times, evidenced by the remains of a Roman watch- witness. In the Middle Ages Montureux belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The monastery Corneux had land in the area of Montureux. The local rule was incumbent to 1418 the Lords of Vergy, then Montureux formed its own rule with changing ownership. With the invasion of the Protestants under the Duke of Zweibrücken in 1569 the village was devastated. Plague and famine decimated the population in the 16th and 17th centuries. Together with the Franche -Comté Montureux came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. To a field change occurred in 1808, when the previously independent Prantigny (1103 documentary mentioned ) with Montureux to the municipality Montureux -et- Prantigny merged. Today Montureux -et- Prantigny is a member of the 42 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières.

Attractions

The three-nave church of Montureux was built in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style. It has a portal in the flamboyant, gilded statues from the 18th century, and various paintings and grave slabs. From the 18th century the castle, which stands in a large park on the river originates. Also worth seeing are the Lavoir of 1866 with its arcades arch, which once served as a laundry and livestock watering, and a 4.6 m high Calvaire at the village entrance. From the medieval castle are only a few remnants still visible. In Prantigny is a wayside cross, which dates back to 1358.

Population

With 203 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Montureux -et- Prantigny one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 446 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Montureux -et- Prantigny was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Gray after Combeaufontaine. Further road links exist with Chargey -lès- Gray, Oyrières, Beaujeu and Rigny.
