Poyans

Poyans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Poyans situated at an altitude of 204 m above sea level, 9 km west of Gray and about 36 km east-northeast of the city of Dijon ( straight line ). The village is located in the extreme west of the département, in the valley of the Ruisseau de Poyans.

The area of ​​12.17 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the rolling countryside of north west of Saônetals. From north to south the area from Ruisseau de Poyans (also Ruisseau d' Échalonge ) crosses, which provides for drainage Saône. The valley is on average 205 m and has a width of approximately one kilometer. She is about 40 m deep sunk into the surrounding plateau.

The plateau consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic and Tertiary. It is broken down by various depressions that open up to the valley of the Ruisseau de Poyans. In the trough and on the plateau dominates agricultural use. With 248 m is achieved at the height northeast of the village is the highest elevation of Poyans. The western boundary marks the grove of the Forêt d' Autrey. To the southeast, the municipality's area covers the extensive grove of the Bois de Poyans (245 m).

Neighboring communities of Poyans are Autrey- lès-Gray in the south, west and north and Bouhans -et- Feurg, Nantilly and Mantoche in the east.

History

The territory has been inhabited since very early on what remains of a Gallo- Roman building and a Burgundian cemetery testify. In the Middle Ages Poyans belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Autrey- lès- Gray. Together with the Franche -Comté Poyans came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2008 Poyans is a member of the comprehensive 14 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Quatre Vallées.

Attractions

The Romanesque village church of Poyans originally dates from the 12th century, but was later redesigned several times; the facade and its current form in the 19th century. It is classified as a monument historique since 1960. It has frescoes from the 15th century and a painted statue of St. Renobert ( 16th century). South of the church stands a sculpted stone cross, which is dated to the year 1605. Also worth seeing is the Lavoir whose roof is supported by five pillars. It was built in 1850, restored in 1984 and once served as a laundry and watering cattle.

Population

With 140 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Poyans one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 349 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Poyans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Autrey- lès-Gray by Essertenne -et- Cecey. Further road links exist with Broye -les- Loups, Bouhans, Nantilly and Mantoche.
