Mantoche

Mantoche is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Mantoche situated at an altitude of 195 m above sea level, 6 km southwest of Gray and about 38 km east-northeast of the city of Dijon ( straight line ). The village is located in the extreme west of the département, in the plane of Gray, on the west bank of the Saône.

The area of ​​16.58 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Saône Valley. The Saône flows here with large meanders through an approximately 3 km wide Alluvialniederung, which is on average 190 m. It is channeled and developed for Waterway; below Mantoche there is a lock works. The large loop of Mantoche is cut off by a side channel ( Dérivation d' Apremont ). The Saône and their side-channel form the eastern and southern boundaries. The northern boundary is in the range of Soufroide, a right tributary of the Saône. History

The territory of Mantoche was probably continuously inhabited since the early Neolithic period. In Mantoche two fords were to cross the Saône what the locality early on gave a certain importance. Various finds from the Bronze Age and the Hallstatt period have been excavated. A settlement and the remains of a Gallo- Roman villa ( with mosaics ) are detected from the 1st century AD.

Attractions

The single village church of Mantoche was built from 1716 to 1730 and has an impressive bell tower. Population

With 474 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Mantoche to the smaller communities of the department of Haute- Saône. Economy and infrastructure

Mantoche has long been a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road D70, which runs from Gray to Dijon. Through a local bypass road, the center is relieved of through traffic. Further road links exist with Apremont and Nantilly. Mantoche has a station on the railway line from Gray to Saint -Jean -de- Losne.
