Geography

Geographical location

The community moss lies on the banks of Lake Constance on the Hori Peninsula.

Community structure

The municipality includes the villages of moss Bankholzen, Iznang, moss and hamlets. It was formed on October 1, 1974 from the four predecessor of today's municipalities districts. With the exception of the former municipality of Hamlet, which included the village hamlet and hamlet Bettnang, passed all former municipalities only from the same villages. In the territory of the former municipality Bankholzen is the Outbound castle Schlossbühl. In the territory of the former municipality Iznang is the Outbound Schwellhart village, and in the territory of the former municipality of hamlets, the villages dialed Green Mountain, Stetten and Tründelzen.

The municipality is bordered to the north by the city of Radolfzell am Bodensee, on the east by Lake Constance, on the south by the municipalities Gaienhofen and Oehningen and to the west by the city of Singen (Hohentwiel ).

History

Districts

The castle and monastery Grünenberg

On a wooded hillside in a valley on the road from hamlet to Gaienhofen the castle was later the monastery Green Mountain. A hermit near the Castle Green Mountain is first mentioned in 1282. Mid-14th century was a Franciscan Terziarinnenkloster. Although largely rebuilt after a fire in 1660, came to light in the 18th century economic problems which eventually led to drastic measures from about 1785. This culminated in 1808 in the monastery was closed. Since 1895 a wayside cross reminds at the site of the monastery of the former Convent Green Mountain.

Population development since the 19th century

The population numbers in the four municipalities subject - also due to emigration movements - in the 19th century large fluctuations. They evolved from a total of 763 inhabitants in 1808 through a temporary high of 1,214 in 1864 to a figure of 1,094 at the end of the 19th century.

In the 20th century the population increased from 1,472 in 1950, about 2,150 in the merger in 1974 to 2,511 in 1987. A further significant increase occurred in the last 20 years to more than 3,200 inhabitants.

History of the united community

Effective October 1, 1974, the municipalities Bankholzen, Iznang, moss and hamlets closed following a decision by the four local councils together on 18 June 1974. On 8 December 1974, the first joint Mayor Alois Keller was elected on April 20, 1975 followed by the first Locality and municipal elections. During the first years the participation of districts was secured by a Ortschaftsrat constitution, which was, however, disbanded at the end of the first term, since it was deemed unnecessary.

The first joint investments were made to completion of the sewage system, to ensure the water supply and to improve traffic conditions. Other significant investments were made later in the construction of the sports facilities moss forest, which was handed over to the 25 and 26 June 1988 and the construction of the community center and renovation of the town hall, the opening of which took place on 29 and 30 August 1992. Since then, there was a steady improvement in the infrastructure, such as the expansion of the primary school in the hamlet, the siting of a consumer and beverage market or the reorganization of the Bank Holzer Torkel to a location.

Policy

The municipality belongs to the Gemeindeverwaltungsverband Hori with headquarters in Gaienhofen.

Parish council

The council are after the local elections of 7 June 2009, in addition to the mayor as chairman, 14 members.

The turnout was 59.9 % (-2.8 %).

The coat of arms of the former, only the place itself comprehensive, community moss shows in silver with a red cross, topped with a golden heart shield, is in a blue wave oblique bar, a floating upwards silver fish. Partnerships

The municipality maintains moss since 1995 partnerships with Le Bourget- du- Lac on Lac du Bourget in France. Friendly relations of the Musikverein Bankholzen to the municipality Ovaro in the Italian province of Udine had previously not led to the inclusion of partnership relationships because of the structural differences and the distance.

Economy and infrastructure

An important economic activity in the municipality is the vegetable, the particular shapes the near-shore part of the municipality. Most other industrial and craft shops are located in the industrial area Mooser stable in the district of moss.

Educational institutions

In the village there is a mainstream school in the form of primary school in the hamlet, and the Hannah Arendt school in Iznang, a private, nationally recognized school with offerings according to the primary, and the learning disabled school. In addition, there is the Catholic kindergarten St. Blaise and the nursery Villa Pfiffikus under communal ownership.

Culture and sights

Regular events

  • Every year on the Monday after the third Sunday in July to meet the citizens of moss with their spiritual and secular representatives through the water procession to the " home team " Theopont, Senesius and Zeno, the city cartridges from Radolfzell, a vow from 1797 for the preservation from a terrible murrain. They row in boats that are decorated with flower garlands, in the port of Radolfzell to Hausherrenfest. Written records exist for the first time for the year 1839. Implementation as a water procession is first documented in the year 1926, but is accepted for earlier years.
  • Every year on the first Sunday in October hosts the nationally known Büllefest. " Bülle " dialect is called the Hori - onion. It will include braided pigtails onion, onion soup and the " Bülledünne ", a sheet cake with onions and bacon, offered. The festival takes place since 1976.
