Mordialloc, Victoria

Mordialloc is a suburb of Melbourne. It is located about 24 km southeast of downtown. The name derives from an Aboriginal word, meaning " little lake " or " small stream ". Through the district runs the Mordialloc Creek.

History

The area was inhabited in the 1840s by a settler named McDonald. After this is now a street named. In the first decades of the inhabitants lived mainly from fishing. 1863, a post office was opened in the area. 1881 a railway connection to Melbourne was established.
