Morris Fidanque de Castro

Morris Fidanque de Castro ( born February 5, 1902 in Panama City, Panama; † December 9, 1966 in Christiansted, U.S. Virgin Islands ) was an American politician. Between 1949 and 1954 he was governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Career

Morris de Castro visited, even though he was Jewish, the Roman Catholic High School of St. Thomas. After graduating from this school, he began a career in public service in the Virgin Islands. He held several offices. In 1934 he was appointed as Commissioner of Finance Finance this area. Between 1945 and 1950 he served as Secretary of State there also vice governor.

On November 30, 1949, he was appointed by President Harry S. Truman in place of William H. Hastie, first as acting and then on February 28, 1950 for the regular Governor of the Virgin Islands. This office he held until 9 April 1954., Where he promoted, among other things, tourism and industry. After the end of his time as governor de Castro remained in his homeland and worked there again for financial management. At the time of his death he was budget director of the then Governor Ralph Moses Paiewonsky.
