Mörrum

Morrum is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Blekinge County, in the historical province of Blekinge.

Location

Morrum belongs to the municipality of Karlshamn. The village is located about 50 km as the crow flies west of the provincial capital of Karlskrona and about seven kilometers northwest of the community center Karlshamn on the river Mörrumsån. Named after the river empties place four kilometers south of Morrum in the Pukavikbucht the Baltic Sea and is one of the most famous salmon rivers in Sweden, which is also reflected in the coat of arms of the town. Two areas west and east of the mouth of the Mörrumsån with a total area of ​​2740 hectares, include the coastal areas, offshore islands and sea area since 2001 under the Ramsar Convention are protected wetlands of international importance under protection. History

In place of the present-day village already existed in the 11th century a church, over which is little known. After several new construction and renovation, the still existing church was consecrated in 1847.

After the municipal regulation of 1862 Morrum was in the following year the center of a rural community ( landskommun ) the Harde Listers Härad. In 1952 it was connected the neighboring rural community and former city Elleholm. The result was a large village ( storkommun ), which merged into the municipality of Karlshamn again in 1967.

Today, the site mainly for the house of the salmon ( Laxens Hus ) is known to be a museum inaugurated in 1992 with a research center dedicated to the salmon and the salmon fishing.
