Mozart family

Mozart is a German name, which can be traced back about 1321 in Bavarian Swabia, the area between Lech, the Danube and the Allgäu. The original spelling is Motzhart and means either dirty man or swampy woods, depending on the translation of the word Hardt or Hart. The word Hardt comes up today in many names of villages near Augsburg, Hart is even more widespread.

From this area comes a family of artisans and musicians of that name; from it comes from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:

Outstanding awareness received the name Mozart in his time by the composer Leopold Mozart and especially by his son Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
