MTV Italy

MTV Italia is an Italian music channel. It was founded on May 1, 2001 by Ernesto Mauri.

Background for this step was the dissolution of the contract between MTV and the Italian program Rete A, on the date the hour MTV aired. From 1 May took over competitors VIVA with an Italian version of the vacant airtime.

Young viewers are often disappointed by the television offer, but would be of particular interest as potential buyers for the advertising market, Mauri told the newspaper Repubblica. MTV wanted especially score with new ideas and would not have a broad audience seer as a top priority.

In this way, Mauri tries fears of Radiotelevisione Italiana and Mediaset ( Berlusconi ) to refute what Cecchi Gori continue to work with the MTV purchase at the installation of a third major media group in Italy. Cecchi Gori already include programs Tele Monte Carlo 1 ( TMC1 ) and Tele Monte Carlo 2 ( TMC2 ).
