Murilo Ramos Krieger

Murilo Sebastião Ramos Krieger SCI ( born September 19, 1943 in Brusque, Brazil) is Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia.

Life

Murilo Sebastião Ramos Krieger joined the Congregation of the Dehonians, put the profession in 1964 and the Archbishop of Florianópolis, Alfonso Niehues, ordained him priest on 7 December 1969. Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop on February 16, 1985 in Florianópolis and Titular Bishop of Lysinia.

The Archbishop of Florianópolis, Alfonso Niehues, donated to him on April 28th of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Honorato Piazera SCI, Bishop of Lages, and Eusébio Oscar Scheid, SCI, Bishop of São José dos Campos. As a motto DEUS CARITAS EST he chose.

On 8 May 1991 he was appointed bishop of Ponta Grossa and introduced into the office on 22 July of the same year. On May 7, 1997, he was appointed Archbishop of Maringá and introduced into the office on 11 July of the same year. On February 20, 2002, he was appointed Archbishop of Florianópolis. Benedict XVI. appointed him on 12 January 2011 as Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia and it was introduced in the post on 25 March of the same year. Since the Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia is a traditionally connected with the cardinal bishopric, he is considered as a candidate to the cardinalate.
