Roman Catholic Diocese of Ponta Grossa

The Diocese of Ponta Grossa (Latin: Dioecesis Ponta Grossa ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic diocese based in Ponta Grossa in the state of Paraná.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded it on 10 May 1926, the Apostolic Constitution Quum in this numerus out of territory of the Archdiocese of Curitiba, where it was assumed as a suffragan.

Parts of its territory it lost in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

  • December 9, 1933 at the Territorialprälatur Palmas;
  • December 16, 1965 to the bishopric of Guarapuava;
  • December 3, 1976 to the bishopric of União da Vitória.

Territory

The Diocese of Ponta Grossa includes the municipalities Carambeí, Castro, Fernandes Pinheiro, Guamiranga, Imbau, Imbituva, Ipiranga, Irati, Ivaí, Ortigueira, Pirai do Sul, Ponta Grossa, Reserva, Teixeira Soares, Telêmaco Borba, Tibagi and Ventania the state of Paraná.
