Musandam Governorate

Musandam (Arabic مسندم, Musandam DMG ) is a governorate (in Arabic muḥāfaẓa ) in the north of the Sultanate of Oman with an area of 1,800 km ² and 28,378 inhabitants ( census December 7, 2003 ). The peninsula, together with offshore islands situated on the southern Arabian side of the Strait of Hormuz. Musandam is therefore of great geopolitical - strategic value.

Description

Musandam is an exclave, an outsourced part and not physically connected to the territory. In the northern area of Musandam is the only Iranian language in the Arabian Peninsula, the Kumzari spoken. There is a distance of about 100 kilometers through the United Arab Emirates between Musandam and Oman. To Wilaya Musandam administratively includes the exclave of Madha.

Main place of Musandam Khasab is al -, which has grown rapidly in recent years. Besides the importance as a military base are fishing, the movement of goods (especially for Iranian smugglers boats ) are of importance. Increasingly, the tourist infrastructure is being expanded. Geology

The coast is the result of the movement of the earth's crust. The Arabian plate pushes slowly under the Eurasian plate, which causes Musandam decreases and that the nearby Iranian mountains are prone to earthquakes.

Administrative Divisions

The governorate of Musandam is divided into four units ( wilayat ):

Administrative head of a so-called Muhafiz. Current Muhafiz is Al- Sayyid Khalifa Bin Murdas Bin Ahmad Al- Busaidi.
