Governorates of Oman
Since 28 October 2011, the Sultanate of Oman is divided into eleven administrative areas. These governorates ( muhafaza, Pl muhafazat ) are subdivided into districts ( wilaya, Pl wilayat ). Each region has more than one regional center

- Schamal al - Batina
- Dschanub al - Batina
- Buraimi
- Al - wusta
- Schamal ash Sharqiyah
- Dschanub ash Sharqiyah
- Dhofar
- Muscat

Outline before 2011
This is a table with the regions / provinces ( mintaqa, Pl manatiq ) and districts ( wilaya ) in Oman ( Population figures are census 2003 Source: Ministry of National Economy ).
The Wilayat ruled by a Wali are those of a city or town corresponding administrative units. Your population figures tell only limited for something about the size of the actual city, the center of a community is sometimes not much more than the seat of the Wali and the Souk. In the case about the " big city " as- Suwaiq live there no more than a few thousand people. In many cases, the population of a Wilaya refers to one or more oases with dozens of scattered villages.
