Muthanna Province

Al- Muthanna (Arabic المثنى, DMG al - Muṯannā ) is a governorate in southern Iraq on the border with Saudi Arabia. The government comprises 51,740 km ², and it lived there about 550,000 sedentary inhabitants ( 2006), as well as another 15,000 Bedouins. Capital of the governorate is Samawah and Governor 's since October 15, 2003, the former army officer Mohammed Ali Hassan Abbas Al- Hassani.

The border with Saudi Arabia is guarded by 680 border police and by the newly formed 2nd Infantry Brigade of the Iraqi army with 1,800 soldiers. The Multi-National Force-Iraq (MNF ) invested around 340 million U.S. dollars in the reconstruction of the infrastructure of the government until July 2006.
