MyZeil

The My Zeil is a shopping mall in the city center of Frankfurt am Main. It is part of the building complex PalaisQuartier and forms its access to the Zeil shopping street. It was inaugurated by the then Lord Mayor of Frankfurt Petra Roth on February 26, 2009.

Design and Architecture

The My Zeil is developed on six floors with one of the longest escalators in Germany (46 meters, Ruhr Museum Zollverein Coal Mine 68 meters ).. The total gross area under the vaulted with 3,200 triangular glass elements structure is 77,000 square meters, to retail in the bottom three floors account for about 52,000 square meters. Anchor tenants are a Rewe-Markt (food), Anson's ( menswear specialist with many leading fashion labels ) to three Part bullets and in the third / fourth floor Saturn ( electronics and home appliances market ) to 7500 square feet in the basement. On the upper floors there is a 'gastro - boulevard " with restaurants, a fitness club ( Fitness First ) with height swimming pool and a games area for children and care. The total of nearly 100 shops were rented for the opening to about 97 percent, but not all related. The price per square meter should be up to 485 Euros.

The architect is Massimiliano Fuksas from Rome. For the structural design of steel and glass construction engineering firm Knippers Helbig from Stuttgart is responsible. Rainwater from the nearly 6000 square meters large roof areas is collected, cleaned and returned to the hot water circuit of the house. In early 2008 the shell of the shopping center was completed and started on the interior. The design has some design flaws. So had to be protected by a temporary portal from falling ice and snow as the main entrance in winter. 2013, the entrance area has been revised so that now a permanently installed roof protects the entrance.

Name controversy and opening

The name MyZeil put the investor on 10 November 2008 in the presence of the Lord Mayor of Frankfurt Petra Roth of the public. The name emphasize the historical roots of this site and also let to German as in English similar to pronounce. The mayor described the naming as " downright brilliant". After a wave of sometimes violent criticism that manifested itself in the local press, including in letters to the editor, the investor announced on 24 November again explicitly that it maintained the naming.

Due to the large crowds visitors were admitted only intermittently in the first days after opening. After two weeks, the mark of one million visitors was exceeded.
