Nahořany (Náchod District)

Nahořany ( German Nahorschan ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located five kilometers west of Nove Mesto nad Metují and belongs to Okres Náchod.

Geography

Nahořany is located in the Eagle foothills, on the right side of the Mettau between this river and the lake Rozkoš. Beyond the Mettau the hills rise Horka (324 m) and Hlohovsky Kopec (309 m). To the northeast lies the airfield Nove Mesto nad Metují.

Neighboring towns are Lhota and Doubravice in the north, Šonov u Nového Mesta nad Metují and Vrchoviny in the northeast, Krcin and Luštinec in the east, Spy in the southeast, Černčice, Osíček, Homole and Dolsko in the south, Roztoky the southwest, Městec and Nouzín in the west and Spyta in the northwest.

History

Nahořany was first documented in 1415.

After the abolition of patrimonial Nahořany formed in 1850 a municipality in the district of Nové Město nad Metují. Since the beginning of the 20th century began a continuous decline in population. Within a hundred years the population of the municipality dropped by 60 percent. In 1950 the village was reclassified to Okres Dobruška and heard since its dissolution in 1960 for Okres Náchod. With the beginning of 1961 the places Dolsko and Lhota were incorporated with Doubravice. At the same time came Městec, which was a district of Velka Jesenice since 1950 to Nahořany. In 2003 the community had 478 inhabitants. Of these, 315 lived in Nahořany, 76 in Lhota, 32 in Městec, 28 and 27 in Dolsko in Doubravice.

The municipality consists of the villages Nahořany Dolsko ( valley ), Doubravice ( Daubrawitz ), Lhota ( Elhotten ) Městec ( Miestetz ) and Nahořany ( Nahorschan ).
