Nakhon Si Thammarat National Museum

The National Museum Nakhon Si Thammarat is one of more than 30 national museums in Thailand.

Location

The National Museum Nakhon Si Thammarat is located in the western part of the city of Nakhon Si Thammarat on the road Ratchadamnoen and is located on the former site of Wat Suan Luang Tawan Ok.

Exhibition

The National Museum Nakhon Si Thammarat houses artifacts from the four southern provinces of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Surat Thani and Chumphon.

An important object is a statue of Vishnu from the 9th century, which is held in the southern Indian Pala style. She was found in a tree in the Amphoe Kapong, Phangnga Province, which at the time was an important gateway for the colonizing Indians.

Religious art from the Dvaravati and Srivijaya Empire until the Rattanakosin era are in the Thai Gallery. In addition, two of bronze drums from northern Vietnam are seen, which have been made ​​by the Dong Son.

History

The museum was opened in 1974. Nearby a branch of the National Library of Thailand in 1976 was opened.
