Namibia Cricket Board

Cricket Namibia (also frequently referred to as Namibia Cricket Board ) was established in 1989 and 1990/1992 recognized by the International Cricket Council. Cricket Namibia is the umbrella organization of the Namibian cricket and organized both the two highest national leagues and youth leagues as well as the Games of the Namibian National Cricket Team.

History

The history of cricket in Namibia dates back to the year 1915. The first game took place between South African soldiers and their prisoners. A first league was launched in 1991. 1958 took place the first international match against South Africa. By 1960, the West African Cricket Union (South West African Cricket Union) was founded as a predecessor of the Namibia Cricket Board. Between 1962 and 1989, 130 games against the South African provinces were held, of which 31 were won. In 1989, the Namibia Cricket Board was formally established.

Since 1990 Cricket Namibia hosts a variety of leagues, including men and youth, since 2010 also for women.

International level

National

Namibia took in 1994 for the first time at international organized by the International Cricket Council tournaments. The Namibian team won at the first tournament of the ICC Trophy in Kenya in 1994 Philip Snow Trophy. Three years later, disappointed the Namibian team in Malaysia. 2001 succeeded in Namibia the walkover and thus the successful qualification for the 2003 Cricket World Cup in South Africa, finished there, however, the last place. In qualifying for the 2007 World Cup and 2011 Namibia failed.
