Namibia national cricket team

The Namibian National Cricket Team represented Namibia at international level in cricket. It is situated by the National Association of Cricket Namibia.

The greatest successes of the team were participating in the Cricket World Cup 2003 in South Africa and the 2nd place in the ICC Intercontinental Cup in 2007 /08.

Namibia plays in the second row of the ICC Intercontinental Cup 2009-2010 (ICC Intercontinental Shield) and the first row of the ICC World Cricket League Africa 2009-13.

History

The first official game of cricket was held in Namibia in 1915 between a team of South African soldiers and a local group of Otjiwarongo. With the occupation of Namibia by South Africa Cricket began to develop on a professional level.

On the Namibian Independence Day, 21 March 1990 and the following days the team played the Gloucestershire County Cricket Club against the first national of Namibia, from which Namibia emerged as the winner three times. Namibia also won the following games against the Netherlands National Cricket Team.

The Namibian National team took the first time in 1994 at the qualification for Cricket World Cup 1996 in part and placed ninth. At the Cricket World Cup 2003 Namibia took the first and only time in part at a Cricket World Cup.

The competition was canceled after one season and the teams integrated part in the Intercontinental Cup.

ICC 6 Nations Challenge

The ICC 6 Nations Challenge took place between 2000 and 2004. Eligible were the best associate members of the International Cricket Council.

Youth

The Namibian National Cricket Team Junior is one of the most successful on the African continent. So the team took part in, among other Cricket World Cup U-19 in 2006 and won the " ICC Africa U19 CWCQ " in September 2010 in Windhoek. They also qualified for the World Cup in 2012.

Records

On 13 July 2011, the Namibian National Cricket Team has numerous unofficial world records for Twenty20 internationals placed against the Kenya Africa National Cricket Team, including the highest score of 262 runs for one wicket. Louis van der Westhuizen scored the highest individual score of 159 runs and 16 the highest number of " sixes " in an innings, and along with Sarel Burger the highest joint score (so-called partnership) with 168 * (not out ) for the 2nd Wicket. Although the game was part of an official ICC Tournament (ICC Africa Region Division One Twenty20 ), these records are still so far unofficially, as the game does not have the status of a Twenty20 International matches.
