Scotland national cricket team

The Scottish cricket team represents Scotland in international matches in cricket. In 1994, the team from the International Cricket Council was accepted as an associate member, after it had separated two years earlier by the English Cricket Team.

History

Prior to joining the ICC

The first recorded cricket match took place in 1785 in Alloa. The first full-fledged international match was played in 1865 at the Oval against Surrey. Organizationally, however, there were problems at first, as the first Scottish Cricket Union, which had been founded in 1879, had to close four years later for financial reasons. In the 19th century, remaining games against Australia and Ireland were initially denied. Before the Second World War then took place, you still first game against New Zealand and India. The first important development for the Scottish cricket after the Second World War was the inclusion in the English national cricket competitions. In 1980 Scotland took first at the Benson & Hedges Cup in part, in 1983 and in the NatWest Trophy. In 1992 Scotland applied for admission to the ICC, which was granted in 1994.

List A and One- Day Internationals

1997 The first participation in the World Cup qualifier was possible in the ICC Trophy. It finished behind Scotland Bangladesh and Kenya took third place and qualified as for the Cricket World Cup 1999 in England. In this, however, the team did not manage success and so she was disqualified in the preliminaries of. In the following ICC Trophy in 2001 they lost the decisive game against Canada and could not, therefore, qualify for the 2003 World Cup. In the ICC Trophy 2005 the team with a victory in the final against hosts Ireland won the title and could thus once again qualify for the World Cup Cricket. But even there, all preliminary round matches were lost. In the following qualification in 2009, the team had already failed in the Super 8 round and finished in sixth place eventually, but was able to at least save the state of a One- Day International teams. For the qualification for World Cup 2015 Scotland currently denies the ICC World Cricket League Championship.

Twenty20

In the first ICC World Twenty20 2007 Scotland took part, left in the first round after a defeat against Pakistan and a no result against India. When qualifying for the next tournament, the team reached the third place, the sufficient subsequently to qualification of the main event due to the withdrawal of Zimbabwe. But even there, you lost both first round matches, this time against South Africa and New Zealand and thus retired early from the tournament. In the following two qualifications in the years 2010 and 2012, Scotland failed to qualify.

First-class cricket

Apart from matches against touring teams such as Australia, Australia 'A' or New Zealand, and occasional comparisons with English first-class counties and the MCC played Scotland since 1909 almost every year a first-class match against Ireland.
