Nancy Marchand

Nancy Marchand ( born June 19, 1928 in Buffalo, New York, † June 18, 2000 in Stratford, Connecticut ) was an American actress.

Life

The daughter of a pianist Marchand early discovered her enthusiasm for art and drama. She studied the works of Shakespeare and other playwrights and theater studies at Carnegie Mellon University and moved to its final to New York City to play there on Broadway.

She was known primarily for her television roles as Livia Soprano in the HBO series The Sopranos, as a newspaper owner Margaret Pynchon in the series Lou Grant (1977-1982), as Dorothea Dix in North and South (1986 ) and as Maude Larrabee in Sabrina 1995th for her supporting role as pesky mother of mob boss Tony Soprano in the Sopranos, she received in 2000, a Golden Globe, a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress (Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series ( Drama ) ) and together with the ensemble of " Sopranos" Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding acting performance of an ensemble in a TV series ( drama).

Marchand died one day before her 72nd birthday from lung cancer.
