Nathan M. Pusey

Nathan Marsh Pusey ( born April 4, 1907 in Council Bluffs, Iowa; † 14 November 2001 in New York City ) was an American educator and university professor, both from 1944 to 1953 president of Lawrence College and 1953-1971 president of Harvard University was.

Life

After schooling Pusey began studying at Harvard University, where he in 1928 initially with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1932 and a Master of Arts (MA ) acquired. In 1937, he completed his postgraduate studies at Harvard University finally from a Doctor of Philosophy ( Ph.D.). After a subsequent work as a teacher at Scripps College in Claremont, he accepted a professorship at Wesleyan University.

1944 Pusey was president of Lawrence College, and has held this position for nine years until his replacement by Douglas M. Knight, 1953. He was then James Bryant Conant 's successor as president of Harvard University and held this position for 18 years until 1971. Successor was Derek Bok, who was previously Dean of the Harvard Law School.

Last Pusey was 1971-1975 President of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
