National Park, New Zealand

National Park Village ( in accordance with local signs and National Park ) is a small town on the Central Plateau of the North Island of New Zealand. It belongs administratively to the Ruapehu District Manawatu -Wanganui Region. The name refers to the Tongariro National Park, New Zealand's first national park was established in 1894 and at its border is the place. The place recorded in the census with 237 (1996), 234 (2001) and 240 (2006) hardly changes the population

Tourism

The dominant industry of the town is tourism. Numerous companies have settled here to provide equipment, hiking tours or accommodation for the tourists. The town is the starting point for numerous guided tours as well as shuttle buses to 15 km away, the biggest ski area in the country, Whakapapa, on the slopes of the active volcano Mount Ruapehu.

Traffic

The place is a station on the North Iceland Main Trunk Railway with a station building. North West of the town is the famous civil engineering services Raurimu spiral, multiple terminal loop of the railway to overcome the height difference to the central plateau.

Near the town is the junction of State Highway 47 from State Highway 4 of the New Zealand road network, about 45 kilometers southwest of Lake Taupo.
