National Portrait Gallery (United States)

The National Portrait Gallery is a portrait gallery in Washington, DC in the United States.

In 1968, the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum opened in Patent Office Building in Washington.

The gallery documents the diversity of personalities, which the U.S. and its culture influenced and influence. In a variety of visual and performing arts, these people are presented to the visitors. It is the only museum in the U.S. that combines the aspects of history, biography and art.

The museum has more than 19,400 works from the fields of painting, sculpture, photography and drawing.

A focus of the collection of the gallery represent the President - pictures, which are exhibited, among others in the Hall of Presidents.
