Founded in 1889, The American National Zoological Park Smithsonian National Zoological Park, also known as short- National Zoo, is located north of Washington DC and is one of the oldest zoos in the United States. In addition to the 66 -acre park and the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute ( SCBI ) in Front Royal is one with his non-public 1,300 acre facility to the zoo. Due to some 30 million U.S. dollars donation per year ( consisting of 70 % public and 30 % private donations ) can afford the Park, part of the Smithsonian Institution to be collected as no admission charge. The zoo is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums ( WAZA ).

The zoo has on the public, you're part of some 30 hectares area, which are steep climbs for the disabled to cope in a natural, hilly terrain with efforts. The zoo is home to 30 to 40 endangered species on both plots.
