Nedim Gürsel
Nedim Gursel (* 1951 in Gaziantep ) is a Turkish writer. He holds French citizenship.
Gursel made his first publications in literary magazines in 1969. After graduating in 1970, the elite high school Galatasaray in Istanbul, he received his degree in Paris at the Sorbonne, where he studied modern French literature and earned his doctorate with a dissertation on Louis Aragon and Nazim Hikmet. He now teaches there Turkish literature. Gursel is the chairman of Turkish literature research of the CNRS. His books have been translated into 12 languages, including German. From Gursel articles have appeared in the newspapers Milliyet, Cumhuriyet and Le Monde.
According to the International Literature Festival Berlin Gursel counts together with Orhan Pamuk and Yasar Kemal 's most renowned Turkish authors.
The Turkish Justice waged against Gursel prosecution for "insulting the religious values of the people" through. Gursel 've offended by passages in his book " Daughters of Allah " Islam. Gursel commented as follows on the allegations: "I am convinced that I have not offended the religion (....) I have the right to criticize religion. ". On 25 June 2009 the negotiating court acquitted him.
